Who We Are in Christ

At Ladies Night out on August 21st we were reminded about who we are in Christ.  Here is a recap of the verses that were reminders that we can anchor our thought life in when the storms of life get crazy.


How do I know who I am?  In Christ…     (all NIV references)



I am Accepted by God

*I am a child of God.  John 1:12

12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God —

*I am a friend of Jesus.  John 15:15

15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

*I have been justified; I have peace with God.  Romans 5:1

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we[a] have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

*I am adopted as God’s child.  Ephesians 1:5

he[a] predestined us for adoption to sonship[b] through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—

*I have direct access to God through His Spirit.  Ephesians 2:18

18 For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.

*I belong to the kingdom of God; I have been redeemed from the kingdom of darkness.  Colossians 1:13-14

13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

*I am loved.  Ephesians 3:17-18

17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,

*I am chosen.  1 Peter 2:9

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
*I am forgiven.  1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

*I am cared for.  Isaiah 40:11

11 He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.

*I am of value to God.  Matthew 10:29-31

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.[a] 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
I have security in God.

*I am free from the condemning charges against me.  Romans 8:31-34

31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died —more than that, who was raised to life —is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

*I cannot be separated from the love of God.  Romans 8:35

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

*I am assured that God will finish the work He started in me.  Philippians 1:6

being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
I have a role in God’s work

*I can bear much fruit as I spend time with God.  John 15:5

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

*I am reconciled to God, and I have a ministry of reconciliation.   2 Corinthians 5:17-18

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:[a] The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:

*I am God’s workmanship, created to do good works. Ephesians 2:10

10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

*I am comforted so that I can comfort.  2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
